Boeing Supports Denver Options’ Military TBI Program

Denver Options’ Operation TBI Freedom OTF program received a generous $10,000 donation from Boeing Global Corporate Citizenship. Corporate citizenship is one of Boeing's core values to bring sustainable improvement to communities where Boeing has a presence.

OTF works with military personnel who served in the Global War on Terror get the help they need when they return to the states. “We focus on the needs of military members who have experienced a traumatic brain injury (TBI), a “signature” injury of this conflict,” explained Program Manager Christen Mason.

This unique program provides key supports for service members with TBI. “Our Care Coordination gives returning soldiers sustained help as they move through phases of disability determination and begin to secure VA benefits. With the crush of service members returning, the process has slowed down and many soldiers feel frustrated and embarrassed. They often give up.” Mason noted that after a TBI, soldiers may require job retraining and help with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), a condition that often accompanies a TBI.

“We work with military services to connect soldiers and family members to both military and community resources,” Mason said. The funds Boeing Global Corporate Citizenship have provided will be used to create rapid access to critically needed emergency resources like cognitive therapy, counseling for post-traumatic stress disorder, assistive technology devices that aid in memory and rehabilitation needs like wheelchairs. 100% of emergency funding is used for these services. .

More than 30,000 troops will return from combat through Fort Carson in the next few years. An estimated 70% will remain in Colorado and 20% of those soldiers will have a TBI. The need far exceeds current resources and Denver Options appreciates Boeing support of soldiers and their families. “We must tap every available resource and find many new funding options to give service members the care they deserve,” sad Denver Options’ Executive Director, Dr. Stephen Block.  He encourages services members with a TBI who need help to contact Operation TBI Freedom-Toll Free: 1-866-245-6600 or visit our website at www.operationtbifreedom.org.
